Disclosure
What we earn from, and what we don't.
CountryLens is a free public-data project. To keep the lights on, some links earn affiliate revenue. Here's the line we draw between that and our editorial work.
Last updated: 2026-05-21
The short version
Some links on this site — particularly to travel insurance, international banking, and relocation services — are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up, we may earn a commission from the service provider at no extra cost to you. Every such link is marked visibly with an affiliate tag.
Our country rankings, comparisons, and indicator data are not for sale. Affiliate partners cannot pay to be ranked higher or to have their service mentioned in narrative copy. The dataset is sourced from primary publishers (UN agencies, World Bank, GBIF, etc.) and the ranking logic is documented in our methodology pages.
FTC compliance (United States)
Per the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides, we disclose material connections between CountryLens and third-party products or services prominently and clearly:
- Each affiliate link is marked with a visible “affiliate” chip immediately adjacent to the link.
- The first time an affiliate relationship appears on a page, we show a short inline notice that this page contains affiliate links.
- We never recommend a product purely because it pays a higher commission. Where a free or open alternative exists and is adequate, we mention it.
EU consumer protection
For visitors in the EU/EEA, we comply with the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive by labeling sponsored or affiliate content distinctly from editorial content.
How we choose partners
When CountryLens recommends an external service, we look for:
- A real consumer benefit that aligns with the page’s topic.
- Transparent pricing (no “contact for quote” dark-pattern providers).
- A reputable history — measured by independent reviews, not self-reported testimonials.
- Compliance with the data-protection rules of the user’s jurisdiction.
If you spot a problem
If you think an affiliate link is mislabeled, the disclosure is missing somewhere it should be, or a recommendation looks unjustified by the data, write to Contact us with the URL. We’ll investigate and respond.
