What we collect, what we don't.
The short version: we collect as little as we can while still making the site work, and we don't sell anything about you.

What we collect
CountryLens v1 has no user accounts and no login. We don’t require you to create a profile, and we don’t store any personally identifying information on our servers.
The data we collect is limited to:
- Anonymous request logs — every page request hits our hosting provider (Vercel) and is logged for ~24 hours for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. These logs include the requesting IP address but are not retained beyond the operational window.
- Aggregated analytics — page views, country of visitor (city-level granularity at most), referring URL, device type, and basic engagement signals (time on page, scroll depth). We use two analytics providers:
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookie-free, runs at the network edge, no client-side tracker.
- Google Analytics 4 — sets a single first-party
_gacookie (used to count returning vs new visitors). IPs are anonymized by Google before storage. No cross-site tracking; we have not enabled Google Signals, demographics, or Ads integration.
- Email you send us — if you write to Contact us, your address and the contents of your message are stored in our mail provider.
- Contact-form submissions — if you use the form on our contact page, we store the name, email address, reason, and message you enter in our database (Supabase) and send a copy to ourselves by email (Resend). To prevent abuse we also store a salted hashof your IP address (never the raw IP) and your browser’s user-agent string. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-preserving bot check that sets no tracking cookies. We keep a submission until the matter it raises is resolved; you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or share any of the data above.
- We don’t use third-party advertising trackers.
- We don’t fingerprint your browser or attempt to track you across sites.
- We don’t set cookies for marketing purposes. The single
_gacookie set by Google Analytics is used only for visit counting; it is not used to retarget or profile.
Affiliate links
If we add affiliate links to insurance, banking, or relocation services in the future, those links will be marked clearly. See our disclosure page for the policy.
Data we display about countries
Every indicator displayed on a country page is sourced from a primary publisher (UN agencies, national statistical offices, peer-reviewed indexes) and is cited inline with a deep link to the publisher’s page. We don’t use private or scraped data about individuals.
Your rights (GDPR + CCPA)
If you’re in the EU/EEA or California, you have the right to ask what data we hold about you and request its deletion. Since we don’t maintain user accounts, in most cases the answer is “nothing personally identifying.” If you’ve emailed us or sent a contact-form message and want that thread or submission deleted, write to Contact usand we’ll comply within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when we change how data flows through the site. The “last updated” date at the top of the page reflects the most recent edit.
