DISCONTINUED [2024-07]: The Australian Government ceased accepting new applications for Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) Visa Subclass 188 on 31 July 2024. Replaced by the National Innovation Visa (NIV) which has NO investment minimum but requires exceptional achievement and a national-reputation nominator. Existing 188 visa holders continue under original terms. Aggregator sites still listing this as an open program post-July-2024 are stale. Historical investment thresholds (now defunct): AUD 1.5M for Investor Stream 188B; AUD 5M for Significant Investor stream; AUD 15M for Premium Investor stream; plus net assets requirements (AUD 2.5M for primary + spouse combined). AU alternatives still active: Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent — points-based), Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional). Historical entry retained for compare-page parity.
