Unit: count
All 250 reporting countries — sort by value or name
250 countries · latest reported year each · Endemic species (GBIF-derived heuristic)
Count of species observed predominantly in this country by GBIF records. Heuristic: for each country's top-30 most-recorded species, we compute the ratio (country_occurrences / global_occurrences). Species with >=95% containment are flagged as endemic, gated by a minimum-global-count of 50 to suppress single-observation noise. This is a LOWER BOUND on true endemism: limited to the top-30 sample, so range-restricted species outside the sample are missed. Substitutes for IUCN Red List endemism (which is CC-BY-NC, blocked by our license posture). Methodology page at /index-method/endemic_species_gbif_proxy explains the trade-offs.
Every fact rendered on a country page deep-links to this source. We don't copy values blindly — our ingestion pipeline fetches directly from the publisher and logs every run so the provenance chain is verifiable.

Across the 250 countries reporting, the world median is 0count. Both columns are sorted purely by value — interpretation (whether higher is "better") depends on the indicator.
